Inquisition testimony on Diego Sanchez de Chavez Luduena, 1594-96Abstract:
Testimony of witnesses on Diego Sanchez de Chavez Luduena, the alcalde of Antequera, Oaxaca, who was under investigation by
the Inquisition under the direction of Sancho Alzorriz, dean of the cathedral at Antequerra. Alzorriz was known to be a zealous
prosecuter for possessing heretical books and this may have been the basis of the charges. Alzorriz made constant inquiries
into the ancestry of the alcalde and particularly whether he was descended from Muslims or Jews. But the testimony of all
the witnesses vouched for the upstanding character and lineage of the alcalde, with the exception of some minor indiscretions.
